For the past century, scientists have been increasingly excited by growing average lifespans. It even led some prominent figures, like Harvard's Professor David Sinclair, to claim that there may be no limit at all to the length of life humans might enjoy in the future.
Not everyone has always shared this outlook though. Back in 1960 an American anatomist called Leonard Hayflick theorised that humans were incapable of living past 120 years, because he believed there was a finite number of times a human cell could divide before stopping.
Yesterday a huge new study was released that confirmed Hayflick's theory was the correct one. An upper limit does exist. And scientists concluded it was around 125 years.
Humans can only live around 120-125 years...this sounds quite familiar. Didn't the Bible make this information known thousands of years ago?
"Then the Lord said, "My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years." (Genesis 6:3)
I guess it takes us a while to catch up with God sometimes.
